What Address Can The Post Office Find?

Yep, it's amazing.  This is the story of two letters: one was sent around the world without an address, and it made it to its destination!  The other letter (sob!), couldn't make it around the block (well, around the town).

First the sad (sob!) letter:

Apparently, the US Government can't find itself! (And you didn't know it was looking, didja?).  This letter was sent to the IRS (that's Internal Revenue Service for you way outta-towners, and they collect the taxes here in the good ole US of A).  Well, one would think that the US Post Office would kinda know where the IRS is.

This letter had the correct street address, but even though the IRS was still at this location, one little division had moved, and the rest of the IRS apparently didn't know where they went!  Isn't that sad?  Below is the evidence - then read on for the happy story!

Here's the evidence:

Here's a blow-up of the envelope:

Pathetic, ain't it?

Now, the happy letter:Venice locals - and some other people who actually drive some distances - know that the best and strongest coffee in LA can be found at The Bean Queen (there's more info on this place elsewhere on the Venice side of the site).  Also, The Bean Queen is a real friendly, homey place, where you can sit, talk to friends, acquaintances, and complete strangers, on every subject from surfing, skating, politics, astrology, apartments, love-life, Venice - you name it.

One visitor couldn't forget The Bean Queen - but unfortunately, forgot the address.  Now how do you send a letter without an address?  Hmmm... apparently, you draw a map!  And it worked!  Yay, US Post Office!  I guess our local carriers in Venice are quite a bit smarter (and nicer) than those in West LA (that's where the aforementioned sad letter was headed).  Even though the name was wrong, the country, zip code, and map got the mail delivered!  Hard to believe?

Check it out!
